The Long Term 2 Rule (LT2) requires monitoring for contaminants in raw surface water, prior to any treatment or disinfection by a public water system. The presence of the contaminants tested for in the raw water does not constitute a threat to the public health because this raw water is not distributed without treatment and disinfection by the water system.
