A physical inspection of the Depot 89 Marketplace was conducted in early September 2023, however, due to a hard drive
failure and loss of all digital information collected at that time, this assessment has been reconstructed from sample records
and memory. Monthly sample collected on August 27th 2023 was positive for total coliform but negative for E. Coli. Repeat
samples collected at TCR001, Upstream, Downstream and at the source on August 29th 2023 were also positive for TC
and negative for EC. An on-site inspection was conducted in early September 2023. No issues were immediately identified
as the system was in good operational condition and no work had been done on it recently. After speaking with the owner,
it became apparent that monsoon storm activity in late July 2023 had resulted in a power-outage and a loss of water
pressure. It was surmised that this loss of water pressure lead to a situation in which water from some of the sample taps
had been back-siphoned into the distribution system. In response to this information and the positive TC results, the system
was flushed for several hours at all taps in an attempt to purge out any remaining contamination. The following monthly
sample collected on September 17th 2023 was negative for both TC and EC, indicating the flushing had been successful. |
